Physiotherapy then and now - insight into my work as a physiotherapist Part I

Physiotherapy and other therapy professions have been undergoing a lot of changes in recent years. This is mainly because much more research has been done in these areas in the recent past (or even for the first time) than in the decades before. As a result, it is now possible to use evidence-based therapies for many diseases in order to offer patients the most effective treatment. Through research findings, it is now possible to prove with factual data whether a therapy has an impact or not, and if so, how strong it is.

In earlier times, it was common for therapists to choose the treatment technique according to their own experience, without knowing whether the applied therapy really had an effect or not. This experience was passed on from one generation of therapists to the next. At the physiotherapy schools, the trainees learned from the teachers the techniques they had learned themselves during their training or had acquired in the course of their professional career through experience or further training. To understand more precisely why physiotherapy has been in this spiral for so long, we would have to go back to its origins. However, that would go beyond the scope of this article, so let us concentrate on today.

In the next part, I would like to show you an example of how we work in physiotherapy at inicio fitness.

Stay healthy and see you soon

Yours Dominik
